How we've helped our patients feel better

Having moved across Canada back to Ontario, I lost my family doctor in BC. Since I have long-term prescriptions, I opted for the yearly subscription. Your Doctors Online have been amazing to my family and me. They are available every day, 24/7, for all my family members.

~Jen Riess —Trustpilot

I recently moved after 25 years to another province. Some of my medication is dispensed monthly. Dr. Hareem was extremely helpful, and this service is worth the $20 per month. There is a huge shortage of doctors in Ontario, and I strongly recommend this app.

~mamakkry —App Store

After struggling across Ontario for proper care, this was the most kind, professional, and understanding doctor experience I’ve had. Highly recommended, especially for busy parents and caregivers.

~brookegurl1313 —App Store

Considering the shortage of family doctors in Ontario, this app is incredibly easy to use. I’ve recommended it to friends and family.

~Nadine McEwen —Google Play Store

After testing positive for COVID-19 in Cambridge, Ontario, this app saved me hours of hospital waiting time. The doctors were extremely helpful and available 24/7.

~Ashnoo —App Store

Compassionate, prompt care from the comfort of my home. I received the lab requisition I needed in under an hour. Highly recommended.

See an online doctor from anywhere in Ontario

Ontario is in east-central Canada, near the U.S. border and the Great Lakes. More than 14 million people reside here, spread across a vast landscape, from the Great Lakes in the south to the remote northern communities.

Over 2 million people do not have a family doctor in Ontario. This means many have to wait in crowded ERs and walk-in clinics, such as Unicare Community Health Centre and Haven Elite Urgent Care, to get care for routine illnesses.

For people in northern Ontario, the nearest hospital is 35 km away. Even a simple check-up may take a long drive. Your Doctors Online works as an online family doctor in Ontario. Whether you are in a high-rise in Toronto or a rural town near the U.S. border, you can get medical advice instantly.

24/7 telehealth services in Ontario

Telehealth in Ontario

From public virtual care programs to private telehealth services in Ontario, there are several ways you can talk to a doctor. Which one you choose depends on how serious your health problem is, how fast you need help, and whether you want to pay or use a free service.

Health811 (Free)

You can call 811 or chat online with a registered nurse who can listen to your symptoms and give you health advice. They can also help you figure out what to do next, like whether you need to see a doctor or can care for yourself at home.

Health Care Connect (Free with OHIP)

A provincially funded program that matches you to a licensed Ontario doctor when you have no family physician.

Private virtual care doctor services in Ontario (Paid)

While provincial programs can take time to find a doctor for you, private telehealth services allow you to get medical care in minutes. One such example is Your Doctors Online, which connects you to a licensed doctor in less than 5 minutes, regardless of where you are in Ontario.

Virtual doctor appointments in Ontario vs walk-in clinic

Feature Traditional walk-in clinic Virtual care at Your Doctors Online
Time to get care Requires sitting for 2–4 hours in crowded waiting rooms. Talk to an online doctor in about 5 minutes.
Availability Restricted hours. You have to adjust your schedule. 24-hour appointments mean care fits your life.
Patient Access Often "not accepting new patients" with long waitlists. Speak to a doctor immediately without waitlists.
Cost Hidden costs: gas, parking, transit, and time off work. Affordable, eliminates travel expenses completely.

Doctor's note online in Ontario at an affordable price

Since sick notes in Canada are not covered by OHIP, you end up paying $20–$50 per note at walk-in clinics in Ontario on top of a one-to-four-hour wait. With Your Doctors Online, sick notes are included in your subscription at no extra cost and delivered to your inbox within minutes of your consultation.

Our Ontario-licensed doctors issue valid sick notes for work, school, extended leave, employer accommodation requests, and university. Under Ontario law, a valid note only needs to confirm:

  • The date you were assessed
  • The expected length of your absence
  • That a licensed healthcare professional conducted the assessment.

Your employer cannot ask for a diagnosis or your medical history. Each note is delivered as a signed, secure PDF with the physician’s name, license details, and clinic contact for verification.

Choosing between employer health benefits and HCSA for virtual care

Private telehealth is not always covered by OHIP, but many Ontario employer plans include a Health Care Spending Account (HCSA), a flexible balance for CRA-eligible medical expenses not covered by your provincial or group plan. Ontario Public Service employees (OPSEU, AMAPCEO), federal public servants on the PSHCP, and municipal employees in Toronto, Ottawa, and other cities often have access to an HCSA or similar spending account through their benefits package.

Whether your HCSA covers a telehealth subscription depends on your plan terms. Your Doctors Online does not bill insurance directly. You pay your subscription, receive a detailed receipt, and submit it to your benefits provider for potential reimbursement.

Virtual walk-in clinic in Ontario — no roster, no referral, no appointment

Our virtual walk-in clinic in Ontario works the same way as a physical one, except the entire visit happens on your phone. There is no patient roster to join, no referral to track down, and no appointment to book days in advance. You open the app, describe your concern, and a licensed online doctor in Ontario picks up your case.

This makes virtual walk-in care a practical option for people across Ontario who fall outside the traditional healthcare path:

  • Newcomers waiting for their OHIP eligibility to activate
  • Shift workers who can’t visit a clinic during business hours
  • University students away from their family doctor
  • parents managing a sick child at home
  •  Anyone in northern and rural Ontario, where the nearest walk-in may be over an hour’s drive away.

Unlike a phone call to Health811, which connects you to a registered nurse, a virtual walk-in visit with Your Doctors Online is a full clinical consultation. Your doctor can diagnose your condition, write a prescription and send it to your local pharmacy, issue a sick note, order lab work or imaging, and refer you to an OHIP-covered specialist.

Frequently asked questions

Wait times for virtual doctors vary between telehealth platforms, often ranging from 2 hours to the next day. At Your Doctors Online, we eliminate the wait. You can connect instantly to a doctor through our app, without booking an appointment in advance.

Yes, our licensed doctors can issue prescription refills in Ontario if medically appropriate. Here is how to get your prescription refill from your phone:

  • Register on our secure telehealth platform
  • Share your prescription refill request
  • If appropriate, our doctor will instantly issue the refill

Some family doctors in Ontario accept new patients, but availability can be limited. More than 205 communities have no family doctors accepting new patients. This means many have to wait in crowded ERs and walk-in clinics, such as Unicare Community Health Centre and Haven Elite Urgent Care. However, Your Doctors Online’s family doctors are accepting patients 24/7 in Ontario. From prescription to sick notes, you can access a number of services during your virtual visit.

Yes. Our virtual doctors do provide sick notes in Ontario for work, school, or other needs. During your virtual consult, explain your illness or situation just as you would in person. If appropriate, the doctor will create a signed medical note verifying your condition and the recommended time off.

Yes. You can get a specialist referral online without visiting a doctor in person. Our primary care doctors can evaluate your symptoms virtually and refer you to specialists who accept OHIP. Depending on your condition, you can get referrals for:

  • Dermatologists
  • Cardiologists
  • Neurologists
  • OB-GYNs
  • Endocrinologists

Yes. With our family-friendly plans, you can use your account to get virtual healthcare services for yourself and eligible family members. You’ll be able to choose who the visit is for when you start a virtual consultation.

Yes, our platform is PHIPA-compliant, which means your health data is stored and shared securely, following Ontario privacy laws. Only licensed doctors can access your information.

You should not use virtual care for emergencies or conditions requiring an in-person examination. While our Ontario-licensed doctors can treat most non-emergency medical conditions, virtual health consultations are not suitable for:

  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Stroke symptoms (sudden numbness, weakness, slurred speech, or confusion)
  • Severe breathing difficulties or shortness of breath
  • Major injuries, broken bones, or uncontrolled bleeding.

Please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately if you are experiencing these symptoms. For safety reasons, we also don’t prescribe controlled medications (such as narcotics or benzodiazepines). If your condition requires an in-person visit, our doctors will guide you on the next steps.

Not always. You can see a doctor in Ontario without OHIP through Your Doctors Online. Simply select a subscription plan, connect with a licensed Canadian doctor, and receive care even when you do not have a valid health card.

Very fast. Our goal is to connect you to our clinical team in under a minute, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The connection is less than 30 seconds, and there is no need to book days or weeks in advance.
