I have been extremely frustrated with Nova Scotia healthcare over the last three years. I can’t even express how grateful I am to have this new experience with dedicated doctors and staff. I just can’t say enough good about care and service.

Quickly got what I needed, this app is great as in Nova Scotia you can’t see a dr.

Obviously wish it was free but even paying the monthly subscription (or just subscribing when I need it) is WAY worth it. We live in Nova Scotia, and there is a major health care crisis. All hospital emergency departments within a 3 hour radius were closed today except one, meaning we would’ve had to wait at our patients for HOURS with our sick infant. I remembered this app, tried it and had a prescription sent to our pharmacy without 5 mins and didn’t even have to leave the house with a sick baby!! Win win. Would be better if you just paid per use instead of a monthly subscription (have to pay 3/m at a time) but I understand.

This is insane. The wait time to see a Doctor (and I'm lucky to have one at all) is crazy in Nova Scotia, even for minor things. I paid 20$ (a monthly fee I believe) and got a subscription in 10 minutes via chat for my daughters tonsillitis on the spot. This is worth it on a case by case basis, let alone a monthly fee. 5 stars. Wonderful.

I have been dealing with a chest infection for 10 days and thought at this point I needed medication to help me recover. Trying to find a walk in clinic, and waiting for hours to see a doctor didn’t seem like a great option for me. A co worker suggested I try “YourDoctors- Online Doctor”. It was over a 7 hour wait, but I was at home resting, instead of a waiting room. Dr. Riwa Sarwar called to confirm my identity and then we went back to the chat in the app. She prescribed medication to treat all my symptoms and offered other non medical treatments to help me. With the doctor shortage in Nova Scotia, it was a great alternative to receive treatment quickly.

This app saved me from having to wait 12+ hours in our local ER for some antibiotics for an ear infection. Dr. Usmani was quick, kind, and helpful. From start to finish the whole process only took about 30 minutes to get my prescription sent off the my pharmacy. This app is going to make Nova Scotian’s lives much easier.

Very compassionate doctors and Speedy service. Give this five stars as it is so hard to get any kind of medical help in the Nova Scotia area.

The Healthcare Crisis in Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia’s primary care gap is improving, but it remains significant. As of April 2026, nearly 62,000 Nova Scotians are still on the Need a Family Practice Registry, meaning they have no attached family doctor or nurse practitioner. The registry peaked at over 160,000 in mid-2024 before a sustained attachment effort began bringing numbers down.
Progress is real, but the gap isn’t closed. Doctors Nova Scotia has described the physician workforce as fragile, marked by chronic recruitment and retention challenges and rising burnout. For the tens of thousands still unattached, everyday health concerns, a UTI, a prescription refill, a sick note, have no obvious front door.
Virtual care doesn’t replace a family doctor. But for most non-emergency concerns, it gets you assessed and treated without waiting hours at a walk-in clinic or emergency department. Your Doctors Online is a private platform, independent of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is virtual care available to all Nova Scotia residents?
Yes. Any resident of Nova Scotia can use Your Doctors Online regardless of whether they have a family doctor. You do not need a referral, an existing relationship with a Your Doctors Online physician, or a prior appointment. New patients can create an account and start a consultation in minutes.
Is the online doctor free in Nova Scotia?
Some consultations are billed directly to your MSI health card and cost nothing if you’re an eligible NS resident. Non-insured services, including doctor’s notes, forms, and certain assessments, involve a fee. Your Doctors Online offers monthly subscription plans and pay-per-use options. See pricing in the app.
Can a virtual doctor prescribe medication in Nova Scotia?
Yes, for most common medications. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy. Per CPSNS guidelines, our physicians cannot prescribe controlled substances (opioids, benzodiazepines, narcotics) through virtual-only encounters without an established in-person treating relationship.
Are Your Doctors Online doctors licensed in Nova Scotia?
Yes. All physicians on the platform are fully licensed Canadian physicians. Under CPSNS policy, any physician licensed in Canada may deliver telemedicine services to patients in Nova Scotia. Your Doctors Online’s physicians comply with all applicable CPSNS professional standards.
How is my health information protected?
Your personal health information is protected under Nova Scotia’s Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Your Doctors Online uses encrypted, PHIA-compliant communication tools. Your information is never shared with employers, insurers, or third parties without your consent, except where required by law or directly for your care (e.g., sending a prescription to your pharmacy).
What happens if my condition needs in-person care?
Our physicians will tell you directly. We don’t keep patients in the virtual queue if in-person assessment is what they actually need. Where possible, we’ll direct you to the appropriate resource, an urgent treatment centre, your local ER, or a specialist.
Can I use Your Doctors Online for my children?
Yes. Your Doctors Online’s family plans cover eligible dependants including children and spouses. You select who the visit is for when you start a consultation.
How do I get lab results after a virtual consultation?
Your physician issues a requisition that you take to a local lab or imaging centre in Nova Scotia. Results are typically sent back to Your Doctors Online and reviewed with you in a follow-up consultation. Note: NSH Diagnostic Test Request policy distinguishes between NSH-affiliated providers and private virtual care providers, if your requisition is from a private platform, confirm acceptance with your specific lab location.
