Most provincially regulated employees in Ontario are entitled to three (3) unpaid, job-protected sick leave days per calendar year, under the ESA. These days can be used for personal illness, injury, or medical emergencies once you’ve been employed for two consecutive weeks. However, some employers, and all federally regulated workplaces, offer additional paid sick days, but that is above the ESA minimum and varies between workplaces.

Our doctors will only backdate a sick note if they determine you were genuinely unfit for work on the earlier date, typically by one or two days, and always based on a proper medical assessment. Notes will never be backdated beyond what the physician reasonably believes reflects your illness.
Certain fitness-for-duty or pre-operative clearances (e.g., for pilots, firefighters, or surgery) require physical exams, lab work, or specialist reports. Without this information, we cannot ethically issue a valid note through telehealth.
