Frequently asked questions
What is a lab requisition form?
A lab requisition form is an official medical order from a Canadian-licensed healthcare provider that tells a laboratory or imaging center exactly which tests to perform. It serves as a referral, ensuring the tests are medically necessary. Without this form, most accredited labs cannot proceed with testing, as it guides the technical process and how results are reported to your doctor.
How do I get a lab requisition from Your Doctors Online, and where do I go to complete the test?
You get a requisition by starting a consultation with one of our doctors. If they determine a test is medically necessary, they will instantly provide you with a digital requisition form (PDF). You can then take this form to any accredited community lab or imaging clinic of your choice.
Will my lab or imaging centres accept a requisition from an online doctor?
Yes, our requisitions are signed by a licensed physician. Labs and the imaging centre will treat an online doctor’s requisition the same way as any other.
Can I email or fax my requisition form to the lab?
This depends on the lab. Many labs and imaging centres now accept electronic requisitions or a faxed copy directly from the doctor’s office.

Prescriptions are sent directly to your preferred pharmacy, and in many cases you can also get home delivery, depending on local pharmacy options. We do not prescribe controlled substances (for example, narcotics, opioids, or certain stimulant medications).
Can I get a doctor’s note online?
Yes. If the doctor determines it’s appropriate, they can provide digital notes (e.g., for work or school). You’ll receive a PDF with the doctor’s name, license details, and contact information that you can download or share. (You can have a more detailed FAQ on your dedicated Doctor’s Note page.)
Can you order lab tests and imaging?
Yes. Doctors can provide lab requisitions (e.g., for bloodwork, urine tests, some imaging like X-rays or ultrasounds) when medically indicated. You take the requisition to a local lab or imaging center, and the results are sent back to be reviewed with you.
Can you see my children or other family members?
Yes. With our family-friendly plans, you can use your account to get care for yourself and eligible family members (for example, your children or spouse) as allowed by your plan. You’ll be able to choose who the visit is for when you start a consultation.
Is my information private and secure?
Yes. Your privacy is a top priority. We use strong encryption and store data securely in compliance with healthcare privacy laws in the regions we serve. Your information is never shared with employers or third parties without your consent, except where required by law or for your care (for example, sending prescriptions or lab orders).
